This may be the first time ever that I have seen the Tao Te Ching referred to as a "guide to strategy and survival".

Are you sure that wasn't the Art of War Te Ching? They're easily confused.

The two works dates from about the same time, 6th century China, but I am not confusing them, which the quotes demonstrate.

I interpret the application of Taoist philosopphy as laying a framework for personal or social survival and political strategy. This is an idea that I stumbled upon in a recent book, Deep Survival, by Laurence Gonzalez: http://www.deepsurvival.com/.
