Scoble Has A Dream
Robert has a dream, but his time frame is off:
[from How Microsoft can shut down Mini-MicrosoftSo, I've been thinking about it for a couple of weeks. How do we tune up Microsoft's economic engine and get ready for the 2010's?
Say, brother.. You're quoting Martin Luther King, and thinking about four or more years from now. Dr. King was all about change now. But mt heart is not bleeding for the lowly employees of Microsoft, who wish it were all better. They are all well-compensated. I am thinking about the people out here, in the wilds, the customer. You keep talking about shareholders and employees, but what about they guy using the products?
You want a moonshot? Survival. Avoid becoming the IBM of the 21st Century. Break yourself into a dozen smaller, hungry companies, and a handful or so may do something glorious.
Microsoft is so tied up in global strategy based on supporting a legacy tail that it can't posssibly win the battles it needs to. But if you became a dozen smaller companies, who knows?
As it is, I can only predict the Austro-Hungarian Empire is bound to slowly lose its glory.

Stowe, what r u smoking? As a Hungarian I know the Empire will last forever :-)
