Drowning in Innovation: /Blips and /Picks

The pace of Web innovation is increasing, as I think everyone is aware. But, at the extreme microcosmic level -- in my everyday line of inquiry -- I am being pinged by something like 5 to 10 companies a week. It's astonishing. Some of these are not totally brand-new products or companies, but just a new release, or new partnership, or an acquisition. But still, I have been unable to keep up with the flood given my travel and work schedule.

So, I have come up with a new idea of how to grapple with this. Since I can't possibly review everything that passes by, I am going to create short product snippets of stuff that cross my radar screen, and I will pull the most interesting one each week for an in-depth review. So I am putting aside the "first look" model I have been using since January. All the short product reviews will be categorized "/blip" and I will set up a separate blog and RSS feed for them, and the most recent 20 /blips will be over in the upper left column, where I have had the New Visionaries series for the past few months. The in-depth review will be be categorized as "/pick", and will likewise be highlighted in the upper left sidebar.

I owe a debt of thanks to Kathy Sierra, whose recent post about clearing out the clutter of things you'll never get around to doing.
