Amanda UnBoomed

Amanda Congdon, who is the primary reason for Rocketboom's astronomical success, announced that she's been dumped from the show.

I noticed some strange stuff with Andrew Baron, her partner, at several conferences recently. At Mesh, in Toronto, I was surprised to see Andrew being interviewed about Rocketboom's success in the first place. He was inarticulate to a degree that baffled the mind. It was like listening to a 13 year old talk about why he hadn't done his homework. Sixty 'sortas' and 'kindas' falling from his mouth. And again, at Vloggercon, even though super articulate Amanda was on stage with Andrew, for some reason he commandeered the session, and mumbled for 30 minutes or so about Rocketboom's success.

I wondered at the time -- in both settings -- why are we listening to this idiot when we could be hearing Amanda?

Now I get it. Andrew wants to put someone else in, getting her out. A media mogul preserving his... what? Ego, I guess. Without Amanda there is no Rocketboom, obviously, but he doesn't see it.

She could move to a new show tomorrow and 99% of the traffic will follow her. Andrew will be proven to be just as moronic as his stage stints suggest, and her new show will rocket to the top.

[Update: I see that Andrew has been hanging out with Dave Winer which doesn't explain his making a monumentally dumb move with Amanda, but could contribute to him losing track of what's important.]

[Update: Steve Rubel suggests she will be heading to Hollywood soon, based on those big Alexa numbers.]
