TechCrush Part 3
Mike has gone to a great deal of trouble to chronicle the many parts of the TechCrush story, including this:
[from The Real Story About TechCrush]late evening Sept 21: Stowe emails me. Won’t post it here. Message is basically that i should buy Techcrush to “end the problem”. Stowe says he has no business interest in the site. I note to myself that his name is on the blog, though. I feel like I’m being blackmailed. I reply “gosh Stowe thanks for the email AFTER the trash post.”
My intent in the suggestion was to endrun the trademark issue, by having TechCruch become part of TechCrunch. It wasn't something I had suggested to the TechCrush guys, who I have never met: I have had only a few email exchanges with them. I was thinking something on the lines of a few thousand bucks, to cover the TechCrush guys efforts. I wasn't trying to blackmail anyone. And, no, I don't have any financial interest in the project. I asked if I could be an occasionaly contributor, but I haven't actually contributed anything yet, and we have never discussed any financial arrangement. I just thought it would be fun.

Key takeaways:
Web 2.0 Is Some Serious Shit.
The Web 2.0 standard is to email someone before you write about them.
Good PR Juice is not welcome where lawyers are concerned.

I'm sorry, the word SERIOUS in my previous comment really should be a link to this.

Seems a bit daft:
1. Does TechCrunch have to buy everything that has a similar name (sure it endruns the trademark thing, but is it good business practice?)
2. Would it be a good thing for TechCrunch to own TechCrush? Seems that TechCrush can only exist in opposition to TechCrunch
3. I think you should just leave TechCrush and Mike alone to get on with it ...

Paying them would set an aweful precedent:
1. Register similar domain with snarky blog
2. get buzz
3. get paid by Techcrunch
no thanks
