TechMunch Begets TechCrush

In a recent post, I suggested that we might benefit from a new blog:

[from /Message: Fred Oliveira on More Failure Please]

Perhaps we need a dark doppelganger to TechCrunch -- a TechMunch -- a blog that religiously revisits every app that debuts in TechCrunch exactly six months later, and determines if these apps are now failures or successes. Of course, most apps are not unambiguously either, so TechMunch would be hard to pull off. Much harder than simply heralding new apps as they appear.

Turns out that two guys in Germany, are going to create TechMunch, although they are going to call it TechCrush:

Hi Stowe,

your idea of a TechMunch really sounded compelling to a colleague and me (two internet-entrepreneurs from good old Germany). In our opinion such blog would be a useful contribution to the blogosphere.
We will rise to the challenge with "Techcrush". I guess we will launch this week at http://www.techcrush.com.

Check us out, cheers
Yves and Lutz

I am drunk with power!

Very nice, can't wait to see what they start crushing first.

Let us know when techcrush.com launches -- I'm ready to subscribe!

... schadenfreude? ;^)

Thanks, Stowe. At the moment we are working under high pressure on both technical implementation and ideas for Techcrush.
As there are a lot of ambiguous cases and opinions on the web, our idea so far is to
let the collective intelligence decide wether a startup is heading into the right or wrong direction: Techcrush will feature a meter for apps where everybody can cast their votes on success/failure. A typical posting may also include some statistics and links to stories on a startup, or its copycats. And of course comments and discussions are welcome -- I hope for a high Conversational Index for Techcrush.
Hopefully we will have something in place on the weekend!

May be I should get the idea for my next venture from you. :) You are a genius, Stowe.

Excuse Stowe, but is it what you spend your time on? Why not taking care more about your blog instead to push the caricature of another? I don t understand that...
