I had heard about the appointment of Sam Wick to head Userplane's business development activities directly from Sam a few weeks ago, when I was in LA. The announcement only hit my inbox yesterday:

Doubles Development Team to Expand Online Communication Platform

LOS ANGELES (October 3, 2006) – Userplane (www.userplane.com), a premier communication platform for online communities and a wholly owned subsidiary of AOL, today announced the appointment of Sam Wick to spearhead the company’s business-development efforts. The company also announced that it is relocating to larger quarters in Santa Monica, Calif. and increasing its staff by 50 percent.

I met Sam through a relatively short consulting project I led for MECA a few years ago, his former employee, where he also led business development. We've remained friends, and I was actually the one that introduced Sam to Mike Jones, the CEO of Userplane.

Just another side effect of my consulting practice!
