There's a big difference between a technology and a service--otherwise, Red Hat wouldn't exist.

Hi Stowe,

You Say: "But I think there is a limited market for Trumba Connect, and one that the services themselves could solve simply by agreeing on a simple import format for events. Looks to me to be a feature, not a company."

While it may be a limited market I think it is pretty big and the while services COULD solve the problem themselves the problem is they aren't. In fact since it's not their core business it's very unlikely they will "all get together" to create a cooperative standard so if Trumba can do it for them I think they have a pretty good business and a useful service for users.

I think Trumba benefits from the Paradox of Choice in that users (or in this case companies) will always choose what's easiest. Easiest is currently really bad event data (non-existent in many/most cases) but by leveraging a third party they could add good event data without doing much.

Just a different take,

Christopher
