Jaiku

Stuart Henshall invited me to join Jaiku, another go at the Nerdvana meme with a strong Twitterish feel to it, the sort of app I am referring to as "social traffic".

Basically, you are pushing out status messages to a list of buddies (and the whole damn world, if you want to) like Twitter, including by texting on your cell. The added wrinkle is that Jaiku allows you to add RSS feeds from your blogs, Flickr, and del.icio.us accounts, so that Jaiku becomes the pulsing bloodstream of your online identity. Note the various icons that denote what sort of social traffic is being pushed.

Every traffic element can be commented on, which adds an interesting meta-layer of commentary within Jaiku, and poses the question where should comments be created?

Jaiku is a much richer tool than Twitter, but Twitter and company could quickly add Jaiku-style functionality. However, they haven't build a 'bot for instant messaging: you have to login directly or use texting or a mobile Nokia client (which is incompatible with my N93. Grrr.).

And of course, no one has built the full on Nerdvana (yet...).
