Lijit

Chris Brogan mentioned Lijit on Twitter this morning, so I took a look. Basically a way to aggregate various sources -- your blog, your mybloglog network, your delicious bookmarks, etc. -- and then search across them.

Did a good job of figuring my world out:

lijit, social search, screenshots

It seems to think that the list I have for upcoming events at /Message is a blogroll, but still it's trying:

Then I tried to join, and discovered that I was already a member: for 2 years and 7 months!

lijit 4

I guess they must have changed the product extensively, because I don't remember it at all.

I tried a search:

lijit 3

Seems like a potentially useful tool. I guess it is simply creating a specifically formed Google query to get the various results. Something Google could knock off in a few days, I bet.

Thanks for mentioning this site. This is a fantastic tool to aggregate everything about me so I don't have to manage the links. I have already replaced the old list on my site with the widget from Lijit.

You have to admit that the way it discovers everything about you from your blog url and its accuracy is fantastic.

Stan, one of the founders (or "the," I don't know) is here at Gnomedex, and is really interesting. The thoughts he has going forward are really exciting and I think Lijit might surprise you again in a few months.

Lijit is a Mobius/Brad Feld Company: http://www.feld.com/blog/archives/2007/07/im_feeling_liji.html

...and popular among the VC blogging crowd.

Hi Stowe,

In fact you *have* been Lijit for over two years: Lijit began as my Master's thesis under the name Outfoxed in 2004. I see that you created an account there way back 2005 after it was on Slashdot. Way to be an early adopter. :)

It's not something Google could knock off in a few days. Our methods of ingesting your content sources and network (and that of everyone else on the web) aren't that simple. And Google coop can't even use our proprietary result scoring (they're stuck with PageRank), so look for some big changes to our search results soon.

Basically we're mapping out the social web. Google found great value in finding patterns in those newfangled "hyperlinks" in the 90's, and we're finding the patterns in social identiy, linking, and content now. See my post Not all links are created equal.

Glad that you find it useful, it's only going to get moreso!

-Stan
