Hugh MacLeod Commits Twittercide

Hugh has taken another big step, deleting his Twitter account:

[from Why I Deleted My Twitter Account.

It's no big deal. I liked Twitter. But I found it too easy.

I think my time would be better spent drawing cartoons and writing books.

That's just how I feel.

However, it is a big deal.

Hugh has made some gigantic life changes in recent weeks, moving to Alpine Texas from the UK, and taking on a book deal... I look forward to reading it.

Personally, I am going to tote this one up to oversaturation, since Hugh's experience of Twitter is somewhat celestial, considering he was followed by over 4800 and he was following over 750.

Twitter presents an opportunity to overdo, something like the fixation that people can get with a slot machine.

You can go to the biggest party of the year, and if you aren't in the mood, you can feel more alone than standing on the dark side of the moon.

I hope Hugh finds his way back to the party, some day.

In a dramatic (perhaps drunken - how would I know?) bid for attention Hugh MacLeod closes his Twitter account. Gasp. The horror. He, like Jim Jones, had thousands of followers. Make mine a diet cherry, Mr. Kool-Aid® pitcher. I can [Read More]

That is sad. He is actually the reason why I took Twitter seriously. He was the only one who twit my worldwide top 100 blog list by blog juice (from those mentioned in the list) and got huge traffic on that day. I started using Twitter since. I'm sure he has influenced more - directly or indirectly.

Cycling back and forth. Twitter as a social media is still forming. Which means that Hugh might decide to come back, when it's time to flog, errh, to talk about his new book. We should perhaps all do that, weave back and forth into the twittersphere?

I have a related confession to make - I had to unfollow @stoweboyd yesterday. Too noisy. Don't think I'll be taking such drastic steps as dumping twitter though!

I think Hugh is doing what every creative person does. Take himself off to internalise, agonise and give birth. He tried Lakelands (as others have done) but kept getting pulled back to London and the big City buzz. He will be back refreshed when he has creatively expurged and starts missing the buzz...

Slot machine-yes sir, that's it! missed doing qigong and yoga for the third day-this has got to stop!!!
