Brightkite Client?

Looks to me like Hiro at Brightkite is hinting at a Brightkite client application:

The only other clue is "Some pretty sweet stuff in the works."

Doe this mean that Brightkite is trying to be a Twitter competitor? Or, is it the case (as I have been arguing) that people will be running a collection of streaming apps on their desktops, each for different purposes/constituencies?
