Small pieces loosely joined, yes. There is so much desire to understand what is happening and what it all means. Sometimes I think let's see what unfolds. Nick Carr and Scott Karp seem quick to judge. But even our perception of time is changing. I am curious to see it. Thanks for the yes, insightful post. I, for one, think? feel? we are becoming collectively smarter.

I don't think Scott Karp's use of "scatological" means what he thinks it means, literally: "dealing pruriently with excrement and excretory functions". Perhaps he does mean it - a bit of word play?

Now who was it that said the introduction of writing would be the downfall of civilisation as it would make people stupid? - They would lose the discipline of training their memory. The change from oral memory to written memory was a great leap forward in expanding the capability of the human mind. Each new technological tool has its critics.

Yes, every wave of innovation is met with derision by the old timers, while the new wave laugh at the dullards for not "getting it".

One side isn't better than the other. If anything, the approach advocated above is only exclusive to a Western audience, and a small, IT literate one at that. As pioneers of the future, it is your responsibility to help educate others - and not just those who share the same socio-economic background - as to how and why your way of finding and using information is superior and can make the world a better place.

Doing so might help us avoid successive generational conflicts. I suspect you may have forgotten this as your historical memory has been surrendered to the internet.

Laughing at the "dumb kids" from the back of the classroom smacks of elitism. A change of approach would suit you better.
