Great post -- 'Stop the Insanity' dosed with common sense. We're developing CHALLENJ, an app for the masses -- there, I'm not afraid to say it -- but still have to remind ourselves every day of that. Most likely it's because developers get so close to their product, the objectivity all but disappears.

Maybe you've got a mantra for us? :)

Great post, shared it on twitter. We've taken some inspiration from this and will continue to build features to "serve drinks and show you around NewsCred!"

Caught exactly the same feeling at identi.ca - long list of features that they would like but don't have, and the daunting prospect of trying to start completely again in some kind of social media world with only the haziest concept of the benefits.

the motive behind so many of these things is really to get traffic, they are thinking about themselves. it is almost luck if something is truly functional for the user. ok, "business" ...

a deeper need, unaddressed by nearly everything so far, almost no site helps me be more me. they are great for me being defined by connection, or projecting out to imaginary friends in conversation, but nothing helps me be in the center as me

structurally, what could that look like? my stuff all in one place, instead of scattered through the e-verse, for starters. right now the only place to find everything i have said is google! how about a me-site? where my world is revealed to me, rather than dispersed everywhere.
