Apple Rumor Day
A day with a barrage of Apple rumors, including one that I am happy to start.
- Based on a few paragraphs in the UK scandal sheet, The Daily Mail, people are now salivating for a iPhone nano by Christmas, although Apple has announced no such plans, and some suggest that they would be cannibalizing the market for their newest iPhone. (Personally, I am holding out for one with a better camera.)
- A few supposed photos of a restyled MacBook -- with aluminum skin -- have surfaced and been pooh-poohed, even though a new design for MacBooks has been announced.
- Lastly, my rumor, which is based on the Lenovo Netbook announcement. Since the Netbook is running on the Intel Atom chipset, it should in principle be able to run Mac OS, with the now usual hackery to get Mac OS to boot there. I am announcing that someone will get Mac OS running on a NetBook in the next few weeks, and that a sizable proportion of NetBook users will be using it as a Mac subnotebook (or netbook) since Apple is not willing to make one for us (Air doesn't count: too big).

The camera on the 1.0 iPhone worked OK, but after upgrading to the 2.0 software which includes location based services my camera’s shutter speed has gone to crap. It takes a good 9 to 10 seconds after selecting “Camera” for the shutter to allow me to take a picture & then another 9 to 10 seconds to refocus between pictures. Why am I not reading about more people complaining about the slowdown of their iPhone camera after the 2.0 upgrade? Maybe my 2.0 upgrade was a bust?

stowe, you are surely not advocating that people break the OSX EULA and put it on non-Apple hardware, are you? ;-)

I cast a vote for rumor number 3.
I wish Apple would stop all the rumors and announce what they intend to do. I guess there are marketing reasons behind letting the rumors run wild. Meanwhile, everyone else is grabbing the netbook marketplace. I am afraid Apple will enter that market next year, but with an $800 machine instead of a $400 one.
