Meet Nelson, Coupland, and Alice — the faces of tomorrow’s book. Watch global design and innovation consultancy IDEO’s vision for the future of the book. What new experiences might be created by linking diverse discussions, what additional value could be created by connected readers to one another, and what innovative ways we might use to tell our favorite stories and build community around books?

Some of the design here is interesting.
I like the Nelson concept that a book is a social object, and the object — and its various elements — is beaded onto public discourse.
Coupland uses social networks, but is too bound to ‘books’ and not to ‘reading’.
Alice is a jumble of odd ideas to extend fiction, lifting ideas from video games and Myst-like exploration toys. Yawn. Still, recasting these ideas into a way to ‘deep dive’ whenever something interesting is turned up — definitions of words and their uses, maps to illustrate locations, and so on — would be more obvious and less game-like.
