Performancing: I Really Wanted It To Work

I have been going through a big change, moving back to Typepad from Moveable Type. I found I was using Performancing — the blog editor that pops up in Firefox — more than formerly, I guess because I find the Typepad experience a little annoying after MT.

But I am going to have to drop Performancing. I like the concept: I select some text on a webpage that I want to use as the nugget of a post, ctrl-click it, and Performancing comes up as an option on the menu. When I select, it pops a window up from the bottom of the browser window:

Great in principle, but it loses its mind too often. In particular, if you click the HTML tab while you are editing in HTML already, you can lose your entire post. Sometimes you can get it back, sometimes not. Sometimes you lose formatting.

So I guess I will take another pass at Ecto, since I have it.
