The Hills Backchannel: More Social TV

Someone (I forget who) pointed out the MTV show, the Hills, which is running a twitter backchannel as a game called ‘Backchannel’ while episodes are aired on the website.

The best comments are selected and added to The Hills User Comment edition, which is something like watching Mystery Science Fiction Theater 3000. I have to admit, that is the experience I would like: watching a movie via my Mac, say in my studio in SF, while @gregarious and @briansolis (pals of mine) watch via iPhone or PC, and we make snarky audio chat. Some day soon, I bet. Maybe via Boxee, who just raised another round and added Fred Wilson to their board.

I think that social TV is here to stay, although the idea that there’s a competition, explicitly, to get your tweets noticed is a bit much.
