AOL Seed
I read about AOL’s launch of Seed (At AOL, the Google culture clash is going to be a big hurdle by Meghan Keane) as an example of Tim Armstrong’s culture clash there. He has his work cut out for him, it seems.
I registered as a potential writer there, and I guess I wasn’t surprised to see the pittance that AOL titles are willing to pay, especially considering the stupid things they want people to write about.

I have actually slept with famous women (no, I ain’t telling), but the idea of detailing it for a sophormoric magazine for $50 just doesn’t add up.
The other sorts of pieces were similar — 10 Top Packing Tips: $10, When should a kid have a cell phone: $30 — that sort of thing. It’s a shame that they only will pay $30 for the kid/cell phone piece: I just read some great research on kids and cellphones, and it would be great for this.
I guess if you are a fast typist, and you submitted 10 or 20 of these a day, and they were all chosen for publication, you could make $500 a day, so it’s a living, I guess.
I didn’t really see anything that I would have wanted to write: I guess tech takes care of itself already?
