Maxim Sex Survey: Texting Skills Matter
A recent sex survey of women by Maxim magazine has all sorts of interesting factoids — “What sounds emanating from a man during sex do you find a major turnoff?” 77.8% Crying — but I was particularly tickled by the Tech & Sex section:
How many of your hookups have come strictly through social networking? None 77.5% 1-5 19.7% 6-10 2.0% More than 10 0.8%Use of smiley faces or emoticons 8.2% Excessive exclamation marks 18.7% Spelling and grammar errors 44.4% Inaapropriate jokes 24.8% Sexual requests 24.8% Nothing. I cut people slack via text/email. 33.6%
Which is a deal-breaker via text or email? (Check all that apply.)Yes 47.1% No 52.9%
Have you ever texted or emailed someone a naked picture of yourself?Yes 29.9% No 70.1%
Have you ever hacked into your partner’s email?Yes 4.1% No 95.9%
Have you ever threatened to reveal an illicit affair using pictures, emails, text messages, or voice mails?
Do you ever Google-stalk a guy before a date?Yes
50.7% No49.3%
My favorite facts are that spelling and grammar matter, and emoticons are not sexy.
In every other case, I was unsurprised by the results, except that in general I would have thought that whatever was the highest score on each question, I would have bet that the numbers would have been higher, like the number of hookups from social networking, how many girls google us before the big date, and how many have sent naked pictures. We know that people under report behaviors that they think are iffy, even in anonymous surveys, though.
