6220, N96, and 6210

So, I presumed that the obvious next phone for me to upgrade to was the n96, since I have found the n95 such a great experience. Well, it looks like the 6220 is going to be a better fit for me. Why?

Turns out that the 6220 is optimized for photography. The 5M Carl Zeiss lens is much like that in my n95, but it has a xenon flash, which is great for taking pictures in low light situations — a real problem with my n95. The n96 has a dual lcd flash, which is better for video. And man, the n96 is geared to video: capture and play-back. It has a 30 frame per second Flash-based movie capablity, and will be packing on enough memory so that people could use it as a convenient movie watching device, including a ‘kick stand’ to prop it up for a lean-back-and-watch experience.
I took the Nokia Navigator Tour in Barcelona, and got to try out the new Maps 2.0 capability. The phone has a compass in it so it will automatically realign the map based on which way the phone is oriented. Here’s me stuck in traffic near the Praca Espanya.

We also tried the phone on foot, which the Maps 2.0 software is designed for. I took some pictures with the new 6220 while we wandered.

I am looking forward to the 6220 as my phone of choice, and to running the new Maps 2.0 software on it.
