Keenan Boyd: Off To College

Keenan is off to college: Columbia College in Chicago, specifically.

I am very proud of Keenan’s poise and grace in the past few months, getting ready to head off to school. I visited the school with him a month ago for the orientation, and it’s going to be a good fit for him: core liberal arts program, with performing arts and various sorts of writing (fiction, journalism, and screenwriting).

The last few days have been sort of a combination of planning and partying, with Keenan’s many friends coming by, loud music being produced, and a lot of young people discussing their travels to the military, college, and other destinations. Some of these kids I have known for most of their lives. And while I won’t miss all of them, most of them are good kids.

Now, Chicago is going to be a frequent stopover point on my endless travels, where I plan to drop in and catch up with Keenan s much as possible. Probably jigger things so I can pass through in September on the way to or from Europe.
