Too Many Irregulars?

So, I guess that fact that I was completely unaware of the Enterprise Irregulars will do me no good. The fact that I changed my blog to /Irregulars, and that I plan to brand my diffuse network of co-conspirators the Brannan Street Irregulars has led to a long queue of them (or their fans) stepping up to slap me in the face:

[from /Irregulars: Name Change: /Work Becomes /Irregulars comments]

Congrat’s it’s a good name :-)

You know, I think Enterprise Irregulars is a good name as well:

“Welcome to the Enterprise Irregulars. We are a diverse group of practitioners, consultants, investors, journalists, analysts and full time bloggers who share a common passion - enterprise technology and its application to business in the 21st century.”

Stowe,

What a marvelous idea…finding inspiration from Sherlock Holmes’ ragtag group of compatriots and building a technology-focused group around the meme.

Why didn’t I think of that? Oh wait…

Turns out we did.

Well, pardon me! I guess that I have no right to use it the way I am, since these guys lifted the idea from Conan Doyle before I did. I would have expected a bit more acceptance from a bunch that consider themselves Irregulars.

But I don’t think it’s confusing, do you? I am using the term Brannan Street Irregulars, and they are the Enterprise Irregulars. I am not particularly involved in enterprise solutions, but that seems to be their principal focus. I am focussed on social applications, almost exclusively.

It’s like the White Sox complaining that the Red Sox stole the idea of wearing socks.

[Update: An even more aggressive comment from Charlie Wood, suggesting that I drop the name:

Stowe,

As Jason and Michael have pointed out, there’s already a group with a similar charter and an extremely similar name. To avoid confusion, you might want to pick something less confusingly similar.

Regards,

Charlie

Hmmm. It’s not a similar charter, since it’s not a media activity, like the Enterprise Irrs. It just a name I am planning to use for a diffuse network of people that I work with, largely out of the public eye.]
