Meetro does IM Geolocation (hey, kinda like us!)
In a move that I am pretty sure was an operator error, I emailed dozens (maybe hundreds?) of people yesterday, inviting them to join Meetro, the geoloco instant messaging solution. The invitation screen said something like “invite your buddies from AIM” and I selected it. I was presented a screen of like five people, and I carefully deselected all of them, and then hit “continue.” By the looks of the barrage of email I have received, a LOT of people got the request to join Meetro from me, even though I thought I had deselected everyone. But no big deal, and it has led to reconnecting with a bunch of folks that I haven’t talked to in a long time. For example, I am having lunch today with Adam Ostrow of Mindsay, and got a phone call from Karen Coburn of Cutter.
The reason I had reinstalled the app is the new friends list that has been implemented —

— which is pretty cool. But Meetro is still in the hall of shame (hiss) since the Mac Meetro client does not act as a multi-headed client for AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, and MSN yet: only available on Windows. And I guess Gtalk hasn’t gotten big enough to be included at all.
