Social Tools Group on Facebook: Yet Another Community?
The Social Tools group that I started on Facebook last year has grown to 386 members without me really noticing. Yikes!
I started the group as a part of the experiential marketing project I was doing for Xing (then OpenBC). That project involved me theoretically using the Xing platform to find more consulting work in Europe, which led to zero leads coming through the Xing channel. Paradoxically, I am spending quite a lot of time in Europe these days. I just returned from three weeks there a week ago. (I intend to write some about what the heck I have been doing over there at /Work, my work-related blog.)
Since the group is so large and diverse, I plan to exploit it for various activities. I invite all interested to join.
On one hand, I am somewhat ambivalent about trying to manage connection through yet another web community, but on the other hand, the group forum tools there are something I just don’t have here at /Message. (Alas, it doesn’t look like there is an easy way to pull a feed from the Facebook group discussions, so I may have to pull things periodically from the discussion there into posts here. Unless someone has figured out a way around that Facebook issue?)
